Local
youth tour area manufacturers.
On September 15,
2006 , volunteer youth from the Buffalo High school toured
several manufacturing facilities in Buffalo . The tours
were organized by the Monticello Work Force Center and the
Wright County Technical Center with the goal of introducing
careers in Manufacturing to area youth.
The factories toured
were Von Ruden, Ekon Powder Coating, & Whirtronics.
From start to finish, there was pride and commitment among
the staff at the companies visited. Demonstrative workers
were active in helping young people project themselves into
the jobs at the respective companies. The people working
at the plants were engaging as they demonstrated their skills
in a passionate hands-on fashion.
The people from the
Workforce Center that organized the tour value the commitment
to community partnership, education and workforce development
that participating companies and organizations had in helping
this to happen. Future tours to other companies will be
forthcoming.
The time spent at
the companies was both informative and inspiring. Quotations
included below from tour participants are proof that efforts
such as these can have positive and lasting impact.
“I
really enjoyed the tours. I thought that those places were
pretty amazing. I liked watching the machines. I am thinking
of applying for one of the jobs. Thanks for bringing me!”
“I
think it was a good opportunity for us because the people
took their time for us. Everyone was nice. People have fun
and they work together. I like this company because they
want us to finish school and then come to work for them”
“
I liked all of the information that I gained from all of
the businesses that we visited .Also I think I can consider
working at all of those businesses”
